William A. Vervoort, 69, of 4274 Swayze Camp Road, Winamac, IN, passed away at 9:10 AM Friday, July 23, 2010 at his residence in Winamac, IN.
He was born January 1, 1941, in Chicago, IL, to Henry and Mary DeRoover Vervoort. Bill was married to Patricia Schwartz on August 29, 1959 in Chicago, IL. Patricia died in 1999.
Bill had worked as a saleman for Santel Chemical Co., in Chigao, IL. He had been an active member of the Chicago Drug and Chemical Association for over 15 years.
Bill came to Winamac in 2005 from Chicago.
Bill enjoyed golfing, and camping at the Broken Arrow Camp ground in Winamac. Bill enjoyed watching the cubs lose and playing cards.

Virgil E. Beckner, 78, of 913 North Agnew Street, Winamac, IN, passed away at 7:02 AM Tuesday, July 13, 2010 in St. Elizabeth East, Lafayette, IN.
He was born July 14, 1931, in Headlee, IN, to Norman and Ellen Stangle Beckner.
Virgil was married to Shirley M. Rife on July 12, 1952, in Winamac, IN. She survives.
He was a member of the Tippecanoe Twirlers Square Dance Club.
Virgil retired as the Electrical Superintendent of the Winamac Municipal Electric Department. He worked for the Town of Winamac for 39 1/2 years.
He enjoyed camping and spending time with his grand and great grandchildren.

He was born December 18, 1935, in Winamac, IN, to Fred and Esther Olson Krohn.
He was married to Martha K. Davis on Feb. 14, 1960, in Francesville, IN. She survives.
Bob was a member of Bethel Bible Church, where he was very active. He was also a member of Gideon's International.
He was President of the Pulaski Co. Sheriff's Merit Board.
Bob was very active in the Pulaski Co. community having served on many boards and committees.
Bob and Martha received the Hoosier Homestead Award in 2008.
He was an active member of the Pulaski Co. Republican Party.
Bob loved his wife and his family very much. He also loved his church family very much.
He was a farmer all of his life and a retired Rural Mail Carrier.

Alice E. Brown, 100, of 624 East 13th Street, Winamac, IN, passed away at 2:05 PM Wednesday, July 7, 2010 at Pulaski Health Care Center in Winamac, IN where she had been a resident for a number of years.
She was born January 1, 1910, in Somerset, MA to Ralph and Elgie Anna Mann Earle. Alice was born into a devout family. She and her siblings were pastors and missionaries in the United States & India.
She graduated from Cleveland Bible Institute & Marion College. Alice taught elementary school at many schools.
Alice Earle married Rev. V. Kenneth Brown on June 10, 1930 in Newport, RI. Together they pastored at Friends churches in Indiana & Ohio, including several churches in Grant County, IN. Kenneth died on August 8, 1982.
Following her husband's death, Alice moved to Winamac, IN to be near her daughter & family.
Alice was a member of the South Marion Friends Church in Marion, IN. She was a supporter of the World Gospel Mission. She was an avid student of the Bible. Alice had a ministry in music & encouragement to others.
She was a member of the Pulaski County Retired Teacher's Assocation & the Pulaski Memorial Auxillary.

Byron W. Harris, 81, of Noblesville, IN (Formerly of Lafayette, IN and Bloomington, IN) died peacefully surrounded by his family at 9:30 AM on Monday, July 5, 2010.
Byron Wallace Harris was born January 20, 1929 in Medaryville, IN to Ralph Wallace and Zelma Campbell Harris.
Byron married Carol Ann Lowry on March 18, 1956 in Francesville, IN. She died in 2003. They lived in Bloominton, IN from 1964 to 1979 and raised their daughters there. They moved to Lafayette, IN in December 1979 where they stayed until the death of Carol Ann. He then moved to Noblesville, IN to be close to his two daughters.
Byron was a Korean War veteran, serving in the US Navy from 1951-1955.
Byron was a 1947 graduate of Medaryville High School. Byron was a railroader for 45 years. He started with the Monon Railroad in 1947 and worked his way up to the Vice President of Operations. He retired from CSX Transportation in 1992.
Byron was a member of the Medaryville Masonic Lodge, South Bend Scottish Rite, and the Lafayette American Legion.
He is survived by:

Lee E. Kiser, 87, of 5724 S. Nickles St., Star City, IN, passed away at 1:54 AM Monday, June 28, 2010 in Pulaski Memorial Hospital, Winamac, IN.
He was born September 22, 1922, in Lakeside, IN, to Burley Virgil and Marie Grafton Kiser.
Lee was married on March 21, 1947, in the Star City United Methodist Church, Star City, IN, to Merlene F. Linback. She survives.
He served in the US Navy during WWII. He was a life member of the VFW Post #1728 and a member of American Legion Post #71.
He was retired from Inland Steel in East Chicago, IN (now Mittal Steel) after 27 years of employment. He was a heavy equipment operator for the mill's rail road system. He received many awards from Inland Steel.
After his retirement he worked at the Star City Recreational Center as caretaker of the grounds for over 10 years.
He was Santa's helper for his friends and family for over 50 years.
Lee enjoyed woodworking, gardening, tending to his yard, and working on cars.
Lee was a great husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.

Jeanetta moved to Medaryville in 1927 where she spent the remainder of her life.
She was a graduate of Medaryville High School and International Business College in Fort Wayne, IN. She was employed at the bank in Medaryville for over 40 years.
She was a member of the Medaryville United Methodist Church where she served as financial secretary, organist and Sunday School teacher.
She enjoyed reading, gardening and traveling.

Charles had been a member of: The Associated Press Managing Editor Association - Reporting, Editing, and Writing Committee; Illinois Press Association; Illinois Soybean Association; American Soybean Association; Illinois Corngrower's Association; National Corngrower's Association; Ford-Iroquois Health Improvement Coaltion; and the Iroquois Memorial Hospital Home Health Advisory Board.
Charles enjoyed sports, reading, gardening, the family pets, collecting baseball cards and antique toy tractors.
He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

Gwen married Forrest C. Stone on December 29, 1946 in Monon, IN. Forrest survives.
She was a member of the Francesville United Methodist Church. Gwen was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star in Francesville, IN.
A farm wife for many years, Gwen always raised a big garden. After retiring Gwen enjoyed spending time with her friends and grandchildren.

Joseph was a Korean War veteran. He was a retired railroad lineman. He had worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad and Conrail.
Joe moved to the Denham area in 1930 from Chicago. He was a member of the American Legion. Joe was a sports fan. He especially enjoyed baseball.
Joe was a kind fellow and a good brother.

Barbara Jane Spry, 78, of 624 East 13th Street, Winamac, IN, passed away at 4:40 AM Tuesday, June 1, 2010 in Pulaski Health Care Center, Winamac, IN.
She was born July 3, 1931, in Williamsville, MO, to Lewis M. and Mary E. Morecraft Wilkes.
Barbara was married to Charles John Spry on June 10, 1950, in Winamac, IN. He died on October 3, 1990.
She lived in Winamac for most of her life and had lived in Monticello for 12 years.
Barbara was a member of the First Christian Church, Winamac, and the Christian Women's Fellowship of the church. She volunteered for many of the church's funeral dinners.
She also was a member of the Order of Eastern Star #96, Winamac, and a former member of Delta Theta Tau, Monticello.
She had helped with Girl Scout camping.
Barbara was a former clerical worker for Winamac Sales, First Union Bank, and Galbreath Inc.
She enjoyed golfing, bunco and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Helen June VonTobel, 83, of 101 Constitution Drive, Francesville, IN, passed away at 4:04 AM Friday, May 28, 2010 at Parkview Haven in Francesville, IN.
She was born January 16, 1927, in Reynolds, IN, to Robert and Mildred Cearing. Helen was married to Robert VonTobel at Robert's family home in Francesville, IN. He died August 1989.
Before Helen was married, she had worked at RBM in Logansport, IN for several years. After she was married, she dedicated her life to being a mother and a grandmother. She retired from Central Electronics in West Lafayette, IN.
Helen and Robert enjoyed traveling.
Helen loved cooking and gardening. She enjoyed spending time with her close friends. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren.

Shelby has resided in Winamac for the past 8 years, coming from North Carolina. She was also a former resident of Calumet City, IL.
While living in Calumet City she was a second mom to many children.
She enjoyed gardening and crocheting. She also loved to read books.

Audrey A. Martin, 76, of 711 North Agnew Street, Winamac, IN, passed away at 11:50 PM Wednesday, May 26, 2010 at her daughter's residence.
She was born on September 11, 1933 in Mundelein, IL to Harry & Ethel Hawker Wagner.
In 1945, her family moved to Lake Mason near Briggsville, WI. She married Carl Williams on April 12, 1953 in Milwaukee, WI. In 1954, they moved to Carl’s family farm 5 miles East of Winamac, IN where they raised 5 children. Carl survives.
Audrey had worked at the Fulton-Marshall Co-Op in Kewanna, IN for 15 years.
She was married to Jack Martin on March 11, 1989 near Walton, IN. They lived most of their married life near Linton, IN. Jack died August 12, 2005. Audrey moved back to Winamac in 2006 to be near her children and grandchildren.
She was a member of the Red Hat Society in Rochester, IN.
Audrey had been a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Kewanna, IN. She was a founding member of the Harrison Township Home-Ec Club.
Audrey enjoyed canning and freezing the harvest of her garden. She also enjoyed crocheting and doing needlepoint. She loved to cook and for the past several years, she had been supplying the Winamac Marching Band with cookies.
Audrey enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.

Salli Jo Haack, 60, of 11295 West Lakeshore, Kewanna, IN (Lake Bruce) passed away at 9:35 PM on May 17, 2010 at the St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Mishawaka, IN.
Salli graduated from Gavit High School in Hammond, IN with Thomas Haack in 1967. She married Thomas on August 29, 1970 in Hammond, IN. He survives.
She and Tom moved to Winamac, IN (Lake Bruce) in 2000 after residing in Griffith, IN for many years.
Salli was so proud of her daughter Jodi and loved talking about her accomplishments.
Salli enjoyed quilting with her friends at the Thread Shed in Rochester, IN. She liked spending time on Lake Bruce with her friends and family. She enjoyed playing the piano. She had a great love of animals, especially her cat Gabby.
She loved visiting with her siblings & daughter on the phone; whether it was listening to her brother Tom play the piano, playing Wheel of Fortune with her sister Donna or reminiscing with her daughter and big brother George.
Salli was a great and caring friend and a wonderful wife, mother, sister & daughter who always put others first. She always knew just the right thing to say.
Her wonderful wit and sense of humor was a joy to all!

She loved to travel and she spent many winters in Florida.
She loved being with her family, especially the babies.

He was born March 22, 1953, in Plymouth, IN, to John and Gwen Graham Hoesel. Jim married Mary Morgan on March 22, 1989, in Knox, IN.
Jim was a 1971 graduate of the Culver Military Academy in Culver, IN.
Jim had worked as a chef at several area restaurants including the Hayloft, Sporty's, Shore Room and the Cove.
Jim enjoyed being the captain of his boat, sharing picnics and watching sunsets. He spent many hours working in the garden. Jim was an avid Cubs fan. He was a great Dad, always putting his kids needs first. He always took great pride in his appearance and was a great dresser. Jim enjoyed listening to his music collection.
Jim was a wonderful husband, father and friend.

She was a member of Eagle's #2580 Auxillary, Winamac, and the Moose Lodge Auxillary #1535, Monticello, IN. She was the Sgt. at Arms for the LaPorte County Council of Clubs, and the Indiana State Council of Clubs.
She moved to the Winamac area in 1981, coming from Calumet City, IL.
She loved her flowers, working in the yard, playing bingo, and dancing.

She was born January 19, 1927, in Benton Harbor, MI, to Frank and Daisy Hanner.
Midge was married on April 27, 1946, in Boswell, IN, to Claude E. "Bud" Stump. He passed away on August 7, 2005.
Midge was a member of the First Christian Church, Winamac. She was famous for her children's sermons at the church. She was baptized on her 80th birthday.
She was also a 50 year member of Tippecanoe Chapter #96 Order of Eastern Star, Winamac, and Psi Iota Xi Sorority, Winamac, and former Mother Advisor of the Rainbow Girls.
She was a former member of the Pythian Sisters, Brook, IN.
Midge was the former co-owner of B&S Radio, Winamac, for 27 years.
Her family and especially her grandchildren were very special to her. She enjoyed attending their sporting events.
She was an avid Jeopardy fan and enjoyed playing along. She also enjoyed crossword puzzles.
She was also an avid NCAA basketball fan.
She enjoyed and was very handy with all crafts, and was widely known for her table decorations and favors.
She was named one of the Pulaski County Women of the Year in 2008.

He was born July 18, 1918, in Chicago, IL, to Joseph and Rose Bookwell Eiler.
Frank married Dorothy Clara Krohn on October 18, 1941 in Winamac, IN. Dorothy died August 7, 2004.
Frank was a carpenter and a farmer in the Winamac area for many years.
He was a WW II Army veteran and served several years over seas. He was a member of VFW Post 1728 in Winamac.
Frank was a member of Local 615 of the Carpenters Union. He enjoyed woodworking and gardening.

She was born January 6, 1920, in Idaville, IN, to Albert and Gertrude Reingardt. Alma married Gale M. Good on January 26, 1941 in White County, Indiana. Gale died October 29, 2007.
She was a member of Paul's Chapel Church and was the church pianist for over 25 years.
Alma was a homemaker. She graduated from Idaville High School in 1938.
Alma enjoyed working in her vegetable garden and spending time with her family.

Carol was a Steel Stacker at NWL Transformers in Borden Town, NJ.
She came to Winamac in 2008 to live with her daughter. She enjoyed watching vampire movies and cook outs.
Carol enjoyed spending time with her children and son-in-law. She loved them unconditionaly and was a great mother.

Stanley R. Jordan, 72, of 1336 W 1000 S, Star City, IN, passed away at 11:24 AM Thursday, May 6, 2010 in Seton Specialty Hospital, Lafayette, IN.
He was born August 10, 1937, in Francesville, IN, to Alfred and Fern Baker Jordan.
He was married to Myra Mae Galbreath on Aug. 10, 1958, in the Headlee Church of God, Headlee, IN. Myra passed away on June 7, 2007.
Stanley retired from TRW Ross Gear in Lafayette, IN, after 48 years of service.
He raised ducks, geese, swans, peacocks, pigeons, chickens, and pigmy goats on his farm. He enjoyed attending bird swaps throughout the midwest.
Stanley also loved to garden, plant flowers, and go mushroom hunting.
He was an avid lottery player.
He enjoyed his grandchildren and great grandson. He enjoyed the companionship of his dog Maggie.

Jewel Minix Williams, 84, 3503 East 1100 North, Wheatfield, IN, passed away at 7:00 PM Wednesday, May 5, 2010 at Porter Valparaiso Hospital Campus in Valparaiso, IN.
She was born January 4, 1926, in Salyersville, KY, to Sam and Lilly Howard Minix.
Jewel Minix married Morris Williams in Salyersville, KY. Morris died in September 1959.
She had been a member of the Medaryville Assembly God Church in Medaryville, IN. She worked faithfully within the church and the ministry. Jewel had also worked many years at the Medaryville Garment Factory.
Jewel married Joseph Willis in 1967 in Medaryville, IN. Joseph died April 12, 2007.
Jewel and Joseph were instrumental in starting the Winamac Assembly of God Church in Winamac, IN. They were licensed ministers and served in the ministry together. They also owned and operated the Winamac Hotel for many years.
Jewel was a good and faithful mother who loved her Lord. She enjoyed spending time with her family and loved them very deeply.

Charles R. Madlung, 88, of 299 West Monroe Street, Talbotton, GA, formerly of Winamac, IN, passed away at 1:41 AM Saturday, May 1, 2010, in his residence.
He was born June 28, 1921 in Reynolds, IN, to James and Edith Seymour Madlung.
Charles married Donna M. Lizenby on March 5, 1946 in Medaryville, IN. She died May 13, 2004.
He was a former resident of Reynolds, IN; Monon, IN; and Winamac, IN.
Charles had served in the US Army in WWII and was a lifetime member of the VFW Post #1728 in Winamac.
Charles was a life long farmer in Pulaski County. He had worked at the Case Implement Co. in Winamac. He had also worked at the Singer/Eaton Co. in Winamac and retired in 1988.
Charles was a member of the Talbotton, GA Volunteer Fire Department Auxillary.
He enjoyed woodworking and spending time with family and friends.

He was a member of the Medaryville Assembly of God Church.
He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, tinkering with mechanical items, and feeding and watching birds.
Greg loved caring for his dog, Ringo and his kitty cats Mr. Morris, Itty Bitty, and Momma Kitty.
He loved spending time on Facebook.
